In the wilds of Borneo

Après s'être levé à 4:30 et 2h30 de vol, nous arrivons à Bornéo à Sandakan pour voir les orang outan et les ours brun dans la réserve de Sepilok.
Après quelques troubles digestifs nous passons une heure à regarder les ours dormir et se nourrir. Un guide nous explique leurs histoires et il est capable de les identifier grâce à leur fourrure unique en forme de collier. L'objectif du centre étant de les renvoyer dans la nature après un certaint temps. Mais le coût de l'opération étant prohibitif (50000 ringit) seulement un a été relâché.
Puis les orang outans, nous en voyons quelque uns car les gardiens les nourrissent. Certains moins timides s'approchent de nous et essayent d'attraper les appareils photos et font pipi sur les visiteurs.
Le soir nous prenons un vol (le 3ème en 36h) pour Kota Kinabalu où nous passons 2 jours à se reposer au bord de la plage (Gaya Island) et de la piscine. Et on en profite pour aller au cinéma voir Zoolander 2 :)

After a 4:30 start and a 2:30 plane journey, we arrived in Sandakan in Borneo and headed off to see the orangutans and the sun bears in Sepilok.

We saw the sun bears first and spent about an hour watching them amble around their sanctuary. One of the carers pointed out the different bears to us, who each have a distinct pattern on their chest, and told us their stories. Most are kept as pets or in private zoos before being found or surrendered. The ultimate aim is to rehabilitate the bears and send them back into the wild but that costs about 50 000 ringitt so only one has been released so far.

Afterwards we headed over the road to see the orangutans' teatime. We saw quite a few different orangutans come to grab their bananas etc - even a mother and baby. At the end of the feeding time, a few of the younger orangutans hung back and scampered over the viewing area so we all got a good look at them - one even decided to wee through the roof...

Then we went back to the airport (by way of Sandakan where I had apparently the best scone in Borneo - I can only assume it was the only 'scone' in Borneo...) to fly to Kota Kinabalu. We stayed there for two days to relax and spend some time on the beach. Guillaume got tanned, I got sunburnt. No surprises there, then.
