Nous nous offrons un restaurant mexicain/asiatique Cuatro recommandé par des amis pour notre dernière soirée à Hawaï (excellent steak de thon) et il est temps de faire les bagages pour aller au Canada.
Mais avant nous nous arrêtons à Honolulu sur l'île d'Oahu pour passer l'après midi et visiter Diamond Head, un des cratères de l'île. Il fait plus de 30 degrés et la vue du sommet se mérite. Après 45 minutes de marche, nous devons passer dans un tunnel et au bout la vue est très jolie sur Honolulu et les plages environnantes.
Puis nous imprimons nos papiers pour le visa canadien dans un ultra geek internet café et nous visitons la côte après Diamond Head, les paysages sont différents de Maui, Oahu est beaucoup plus peuplé et le trafique est horrible mais il y de jolies plages et des bons points de vue au bord de la route.
Après un détour par Pearl Harbor nous rendons la voiture (une petite Jeep Wrangler) et prenons l'avion pour Vancouver! 5h50 de vol, 2h de sommeil et pas d'écran...
As a farewell to our three-month adventure, we took ourselves out to a Mexican/Asian fusion restaurant in Kihei recommended by some family friends (Guillaume had an excellent tuna steak and my mahi mahi was brilliant too) and then it was time to pack our bags ready for the final journey to Canada.
En route, we stopped off on Oahu Island (where Honolulu is) to spend the afternoon seeing a bit more of Hawaii. We visited Diamond Head, one of the craters on the island which is an almost perfect circle. It was over 30°c - you have to work for the view from the top of the crater. After 45 minutes of walking (uphill!), we passed through a tunnel to see the beautiful view of the Pacific and beaches along the coast on the other side.
Once we'd come back down (much easier) we found an ultra geeky internet café to print our documents for Canadian immigration and drove further along the coast. The landscape is very different to Maui - Oahu is much more built up and the traffic is horrific, but the beaches are nice and there are some good viewpoints. One was particularly spectacular with brilliant blue waves crashing against the volcanic rocks.
After an (unplanned) detour via Pearl Harbour, we returned the car and caught the plane to Vancouver. A 5 1/2 hour flight and only one hour's sleep with a seat that doesn't recline and no screen (at all - not even a shared one like back in the good old days)... Night flights and low-cost airlines are not a good combination.
