Tokyo Drift

Nous commençons la visite de Tokyo avec le parc d'Ueno, les cerisiers ne sont plus très en fleurs et nous continuons avec le quartier de Yanaka qui est un quartier très tranquille avec son cimetière et ses chats, nous avons l'impression de marcher dans un village de campagne même si on est au cœur de Tokyo. Nous en profitons pour acheter une petite oeuvre d'art d'Allan West que nous rencontrons en personne. Un américain qui fait des peintures utilisant des techniques traditionnelles japonaises.
Puis nous nous dirigeons vers le plus vieux temple de Tokyo à Asakusa (Senso-ji), il y a un marché très touristique avant d'y entrer. Et nous allons au SkyTree la plus haute tour de Tokyo construite en 2012. D'en haut on peut se rendre compte que Tokyo est vraiment immense et c'est encore plus impressionnant de nuit! Nous rejoignons Cyrille pour dîner à Shinjuku (du poulet cru? non merci...). Sur le chemin du retour nous tombons sur un groupe de vieux rock très énergique et sympathique.

We started our stay in Tokyo with Ueno Park. The cherry blossoms had mostly finished so after looking at the shrines and taking a sneak peak at the peony garden, we moved on to the Yanaka district. Yanaka is very calm with lots of art galleries, a large cemetery and some cats - we really felt like we were in a country village rather than the centre of Tokyo. We bought a painting by Allan West, an American who paints using traditional Japanese techniques, from one of the galleries - something to remind us of our travels later!

Afterwards we went to the oldest temple in Tokyo in the district of Asakusa - Senso-ji - battling our way through an extremely tourist-centred market to get there. We then went to the SkyTree - the highest tower in Tokyo, built in 2012. From 350m in the air, you really appreciate the vastness of Tokyo, and it was even more impressive at night. For tea we met up with Guillaume's friend Cyrille again in Shinjuku (raw chicken and avocados anyone?) and on the way home we came across a rock'n'roll group with lots and lots of energy - as well as good taste in music.
